The moving workforce

Functionality, interoperability and connectivity are converging in technology like never before.

The resulting mobility is bringing the workplace ever closer to the workers and helping us rethink outdated working practices.

The office on-demand

At any given time of day, almost every aspect of the workplace is accessible not simply from our homes, but from the palm of our hands. Beyond the email, social media and calendar functions we all depend on are apps providing added mobility and accessibility to a wide range of services.
This ‘anytime, anywhere’ element of the office on-demand, is complemented by an emergent infrastructure that is created through the combination of the cloud, interoperable IT systems and intelligent office tools.

As well as creating and effectively virtualising an office ecosystem, this is opening up the ‘anyhow’ element of remote work that has perhaps been the biggest technical barrier for both businesses and workers.

With improved connectivity and mobility, increasingly the choice is to work remotely. As such, workers don’t just require office solutions they can use on the move, but products they can easily take on the move.

From the expected to the unexpected

As the popularity of online shopping continues to soar and with customers expecting faster delivery times, mobile printers are ideally suited to warehousing and direct store delivery operations, where they help to speed up and smooth processes such as printing delivery labels and receipts. Their durability also makes them suitable for field services, utilities and ticketing sectors.

Mobile printers have even found their way into industries you wouldn’t expect.  Beyond warehousing, our devices have even become sought after by tattoo artists. In 2017, almost 2,500 European tattooists purchased a PJ7 device, as its high-resolution detail enables the creation of elaborate designs.

Tattoo artist Paul Talbot was among the first to start using the device, replacing his previous thermal equipment which was too big and temperamental to transport.  As a compact but complex mobile device, the thermal printer enables him to tour across Europe and America to tattoo conventions, therefore expanding his business horizons and adding a new dimension of mobility to the sector.

Breaking the boundaries

To suit today’s worker, devices really need to have no boundaries in terms of technology, reliability, performance and mobility, to help businesses and workers with the transition away from the ‘traditional’ office.

Despite buildings being one of the biggest costs for business, property savings could just be the tip of the iceberg. Remote workers utilising co-working hubs could introduce ideas and operational efficiencies from other sectors, while working more socially could help to generate new business opportunities.
Cultivating a moving workforce will see employees become more productive and entrepreneurially minded, in a development that will help enterprises in ways we’re only just beginning to understand.
